Kairos Ventures is pleased to announce that Northwestern University Professor Mercouri Kanatzidis, the founder of our portfolio company Actinia, Inc., has received another great honor in recognition of his pioneering contributions to the science of solid-state chemistry. Professor Kanatzidis, who was elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences earlier this year and won the Royal Society of Chemistry‘s 2023 Centenary Prize just a few days ago, has now had a newly discovered mineral named after him by International Mineralogical Association (IMA). This mineral, kanatzidisite, is a naturally occurring material that was recently unearthed in Hungary and is now housed in the collection of the Museo di Storia Naturale in Florence, Italy. Its chemical structure is similar to many of the materials that Mercouri has discovered and developed over his long career, including the materials that Actinia is using to revolutionize the X-ray imaging world. Congratulations again, Mercouri!
