Ten years ago today, we started Kairos Ventures to create moments in time (Kairos is a Greek word which means special moments in time which result in good things happening) where breakthroughs in science, from our nations top scientists at Universities, could change the world.

Today, our companies have raised some 1.3 billion dollars and have demonstrated and are starting to commercialize many breakthroughs. From the world’s first plasma ignition technology that can help improve MPG of cars by 25%, to the world’s first plastic heart valves installed in humans, to the first company to develop inexpensive chemistry to produce pheromones for insect mating disruption, to a new outpatient treatment that will  break up kidney stones, to a drone that has folding wings,  to multiple drugs in phase 2 trials for cancer treatments, to an etching technology that can etch surfaces at a molecular level, to a company that can grow vascularized human tissue to test drug efficacy and reduce all drug development times by years, we focus on world firsts.

It’s not easy doing what we do. But, our mission is to find the best and brightest, and help them, so together, we can change the world.

To all of our university partners, founders, investors and team members: we salute you and appreciate your support. None of this would have been possible without you.

Jim Demetriades, CEO of Kairos Ventures
